We love to see our work at work. Some of the most challenging assignments come from great local businesses who would like to partner with us to create some fresh looks for their web images, help developing new headshots, and images that convey a story. Last Sunday afternoon, Brent spent some time on MSU’s campus with models for Everything Swag!

Before talking about Kim and Dan’s amazing wedding, I have to explain a little something. At almost every wedding, something goes wrong. Not big things, just something tiny… someone forgot something, someone runs a little late, hair is not quite right, it is nap time for the flower girls, the bustle falls out, it is a 100 degrees, it rains…. We are very used to improvising, moving things around and going with the flow. (And I happen to be MacGyver with a hair tie and a wedding dress The biggest thing that we notice is how the couple reacts to these little bumps in the road.

At Kim and Dan’s wedding they had quite a few little hiccups… the limo was late picking the girls up and got stuck in traffic, mom of the bride had a little car trouble, an honored guest fell and got a pretty good scrape, a HUGE storm rolled in just after the ceremony drenching them as they got into the limo, which then broke down on the side of the highway taking the bridal party to the reception! Believe it or not, I think there may have been a few other things as well.. Through all of it, Kim had a beautiful smile and her face, and Dan’s positive and carefree attitude never changed.

It takes a rare couple to always see the good in a situation and don’t let the little things bother them. (They also risked getting struck by lighting running around on a beach with us as the storm rolled in!)

I have been so blessed this year to have amazing seniors to work with. We don’t advertise, so most of our seniors come to us because they know someone we have worked with, or have seen our work. This is so fun because they are excited about our art and feel like the know us a little already.

Abi is an amazing young woman who has been in the United States for only four years! She braved a mosquito infested park with me and her images turned out fantastic! (although we did end up editing out quite a few of the evil little bugs.)

Jacob and Nicole were married on one of the most beautiful Saturdays of the summer. This couple started dating in high school and had such great chemistry together. Jacob has four brothers and the sheer size of his family (all built for football) made me smile as they stood up with their petite and beautiful mother.

After the ceremony, we took some portraits at Francis Park (the same place they were engaged!) and headed to the Moreno’s for a snack and to cool down! It was so hot, I contemplated jumping in the pool. Or the pond….

Anyway, tThe wedding was at St. Mary’s Cathedral, downtown Lansing and reception was at the Henry Center on MSU’s golf course. The course hosted an antique car show and we were lucky enough to get portraits with one of the cars! Believe it or not, but the hood ornament alone is worth over $1,000! The reception was beautiful and the crowd awesome. Congratulations Jacob and Nicole!!

Saturday we travelled to Kalamazoo to one of the most beautiful churches I have been blessed to photograph. The sanctuary was flooded with natural light and had an amazing floor to ceiling stained glass wall right behind the alter. It was stunning. As was the bride! We met Kasey at her sister’s wedding and were so excited to get the chance to work with her again. The day was so perfectly suited to Kasey’s style, bright, beautiful and a bit of bling! Congratulations, and have a wonderful time in Hawaii!

On one of the hottest Saturdays so far this year, I got to spend it in the Flint area with the amazing Staci and Lee. This wedding was so well planned and ran so smoothly, it really confirmed why I love my job so much! Staci chose beautiful navy blue dresses and put her flower girls and junior bridesmaids in coordinating colors, it looked super cute. Brent was photographing a wedding in Holt that afternoon, so I was excited to work with our assistant, Janelle. She did fantastic, and it was so fun to catch Brent up on all the details at the end of the night. Especially the gigantic bread table at the reception. Mmmmm.

We have been blessed this year with beautiful weather on wedding days! Margaret and Dan’s day was no exception and it was sunny and beautiful when they tied the knot. There was a little surprise for us when the venue did not have power until just after the ceremony was over! It only caused a few little issues and the couple was married by a big beautiful window, so the light was amazing during the ceremony. Right before the reception the power kicked on and the party began!

My favorite part of Margaret and Dan’s wedding was all the amazing details. From the custom crossword puzzle, table seating carabiners, beautiful postcard table numbers, blue drinks, straws, linens and the fantastic trail mix bar. Here are a few of our favorites from the day. Enjoy!

Christine & Patrick ~ 5.21.11

Christine and Patrick are a wedding photographers dream for a couple of reasons. The first became very obvious while planning their engagement pictures. They wanted something fun and unique, funky and a little naughty. I loved it. We had a great engagement session and created these super fun save the dates. (not to worry, the graffiti was added after the fact, I am creative, not criminal)

From here I knew I would love working with these two and I couldn’t wait for their wedding. Oh, and the wedding was going to take place at one of my favorite churches as well!!

When we arrived, everything went smoothly until we were eaten alive by about a million mosquitoes at the park location we found for pictures. Soon we were on our way to the reception anticipating one of the biggest reception surprises I had ever seen! (And I have been to a few receptions…)

For the introduction of this awesome couple, the bridal party, lead by the bride and groom joined in a choreographed dance to “Your love is my drug.” It was so much fun!! First the brother of the bride came in break dancing, the groom was thrown to the ground and the groom flipped his bride on the dance floor. It was sweet. I wish I could watch it again. One of my favorite parts was when the group had a last minute practice in the street after we wrapped up pictures. I can’t wait to share the day with you, but until then, enjoy a few of my favorites!

Jen & Matt are Married!

This weekend, Brent and I, along with our assistant Laura, shot Jen and Matt’s wedding downtown Lansing. This was such a special wedding for me because I have known Jen for a long time and was thrilled to see her so happy, and so amazingly beautiful. She and Matt are so much fun and love goofing around and just being who they are in front of the camera. Of course, you can’t go wrong with an amazing red bridal gown either!! Thank you Jen and Matt for asking us to be a part of your wedding, we had a blast and I can’t wait to see what life has in store for you and your family!

One of my favorite details from Jen and Matt’s wedding was the super big guestbook print for friends and family to sign. The print is a 30×40 mounted print and while it was sitting in my office, waiting to be picked up, I kept staring at it, and I have a feeling there will be a bunch more 30x40s in our future! I love it!

Lisa & Stephen ~ 4.29.11

On the day of the wedding heard round the world, we were blessed to shoot an amazing wedding right here in Lansing!

Stephen and Lisa were married at South Church and celebrated with an evening reception at the Grand Ledge Opera House. This couple is so sweet and we had beautiful weather, despite the cool temperature earlier in the day. Lisa put together most of the details for her wedding from the bling at the church to the CD wall behind the DJ.

The Bride also surprised everyone during the ceremony by singing to her new husband. It was so beautiful and I am happy to share a little glimpse of it with you!
